If you buy on the website, we will send you a copy of the 70 minute video, included with the book.
The widescreen video - taken during Phase 4 - was shot at the same time as the photos for the book were being taken. So we also have moving pictures of what has been written about, and you can see this and enjoy it, as it brings the book alive. There's lots more of this footage, but we took the most relevant stuff and put it together. A retail version of this DVD is available in the Ffestiniog Railway Shop at Porthmadog at £20. An extract of the video can be seen below.
The video is offered as an 'add-on' to the book, and not as a stand alone video. It was a chance to show the reader some moving pictures from the time of the rebuilding and after.
The book contains the story of the restoration of the Welsh Highland Railway from Caernarfon to Porthmadog - indeed people have now said that this is the 'definitive' story of WHR restoration.
This is a railway book with a difference, as it shows and describes the reconstruction of a modern railway. The WHR is in effect 25 miles of new narrow gauge railway - and few of those have been built in UK in recent years. It is a tourist attraction with the power to make a substantial economic improvement to the area it serves - indeed it is doing so. The account is not a thin, reedy call from the past, it is a lusty call from contemporary Britain to record and enjoy what has been achieved. The attempt has been made now, to tell the restoration story that bridges over 20 years. Already the memories are fading, and they have been recorded in one of the most comprehensive accounts of a contemporary 'new' 25 mile modern railway.
